Made from heavy-gauge 18/10 stainless steel, these stylish and durable measuring cups will never melt, chip, warp, or break like plastic models. This set includes four of the most common measuring sizes: 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, and 1/4 cup. (Half measurements are conveniently marked inside each bowl--making it easier than ever to halve recipes.) Appropriate for dry ingredients such as flour, sugar, or rice, these nesting cups feature hygienic, easy-to-clean single-piece construction without welds or seams where food scraps can lodge. The ergonomic design balances on counters without tipping over, while a flat rim makes it easy to level off ingredients when precision is essential. An included ring and slotted handles for hanging make even storage a snap. All cups are dishwasher-safe. --Mary Park
| Solid, long lasting measuring cups | 2010-02-16 | 5 / 5 |
| | America's Test Kitchen recommended a different set of Amco measuring cups but a lot of reviewers complained about the handles falling off of those, so I went with this set instead. Bought both the regular and odd size sets. The handles and cups are one solid piece, so no loose handles; flat surface from handle to cup, so easy to level contents; all but one are weighted so they don't tip over on your counter even when empty (the smallest, 1/4 cup, does tip when empty but doesn't when full). They are definitely heavier and wider than other cups, but I don't find either of those features a drawback. Each cup has a half-filled mark inside, which is really handy for eliminating some math when halving recipes. I've been using the cups for almost 3 months now and haven't experienced any inaccuracy issues, though after reading other reviews I've been very careful when leveling off because of the increased possibility of "human error" due to the wide-mouth design. I took the rings off the sets and store them stacked in a drawer, so haven't had any rust problems. All in all I'm very pleased with these cups, and look forward to using them for years to come. |
| Great measuring spoons | 2010-01-25 | 5 / 5 |
| | These measuring spoons are excellent. They are heavy duty, have a sturdy handle, and are easy to use. The half measure is very helpful as well. |
| Beautiful, but not accurate!!! | 2010-01-19 | 2 / 5 |
| | Ok, I saw these and fell in love with them. So much so, I was willing to shell out $20 for them! How ridiculous is that? For measuring cups?? Anyhow, I thought the construction of the cups were fantastic, and the one-piece design sold me. Ok, so they are lovely, and they don't have a crack in between the handle and the actual cup, so I bought them. It didn't even occur to me that they wouldn't measure things correctly. So, one year later, I'm making my usual pumpkin bread, but it came out all wrong! How can this be? I did it exactly as directed. So, I looked on to see if other people had this problem with these cups. And yes, some people had. So, I decided I'd check on this. I guess, up until this point, I hadn't tried to bake anything, so measuring wasn't a problem...but yesterday, it really was. I tried the test: 2 quarter cups into a half cup. That was ok. But the two half cups overfill the 1 cup by atleast 1/8 of a cup!!! This is so sad. I LOVED these cups!!! And now I have to use the 1/2 cups to measure out a 1 cup every time just to get the proportions right?? That's ridiculous. Save your money!!! |
| These will last forever. | 2009-12-30 | 5 / 5 |
| | These measuring spoons are a cut above the rest for one reason: they'll last forever. The first important feature is that they are made of thick stainless steel, so they won't bend, scratch, rust or anything like that. The second feature is that the text that indicates the volume of the spoon is etched into the metal so it won't wear off. You won't have to baby these measuring spoons. Put them in the dishwasher and don't worry about the markings wearing off. It doesn't matter what you do to these spoons, they'll outlive you. Your grandkids will inherit these spoons. Heck, some future civilization will dig these out of the archeological site where your kitchen once sat and know exactly what volume that spoon held. By the way, the makers of these spoons make a similar set of measuring cups. |
| Has its uses -- but not accurate! | 2009-09-23 | 3 / 5 |
| Suppose you just like useful, well made things, and had been eyeing these cups in your local hardware store for a while. Then suppose you got a nice store coupon and bought them, but upon bringing them home your sharp eye combined with your suspicious nature caused you to check their accuracy. And you found they were not accurate! The 1/3 cup measure is too generous, and the 1 cup measure, the worst of them, is actually short by 2 tablespoons! Would you, despite their good looks and nice feel, their one piece construction, give them just three stars? I would, dear reader, I would.
Other reviewers have already commented on the use of these cups for baking. Here's an example of how these cups might affect your cooking. If you use the 1 cup measure for 2 cups of rice, you'll actually be short a quarter cup of rice. Now, if you use a different (and accurate) liquid measuring cup for 4 cups of water, you have an extra half cup of water. Your rice will be very wet. 'Nuff said!
I give them two stars as measuring cups -- my third star is there because the broad base and heavy weight of the largest cup make it good to melt butter or chocolate in, which I do on a gas stove. |
