Handmade of mouth-blown full lead crystal, this malt whiskey glass is from Riedel's top-of-the-line Sommeliers collection and is for those who take their whiskey seriously. As with its Sommeliers wine glasses, Riedel put the same amount of research and experience behind developing the shape of this glass for malt whiskeys, employing the help of master distillers in Scotland and expert single malt tasters in Austria. The result is this "elongated thistle"-shaped glass on a short stem, which perfectly enhances the soft malt flavor of whiskey. The glass's flared lip directs whiskey to the tip of the tongue to draw attention to whiskey's sweetness and draws out a single malt's creamy texture. Expert tasters confirm that this glass shape is superior to tumblers, which inhibit whiskey's aroma, and balloon snifters, which highlight the alcohol too much and bring out a cognac-like flavor. The delicate glass holds 7 ounces of whiskey and stands 4-1/2 inches high with a 2-1/2-inch wide bowl. --Cristina Vaamonde
The creme de la creme of luxury glass. The Riedel Sommeliers Single Malt Scotch Glass brings forward the pure malt character of whiskies concentrating their aromas and accentuating their softness, roundness and silkiness. The small, slightly out-turned lip directs the spirit onto the tip of the tongue, where sweetness is perceived, and serves to bring out the elegant creaminess of a top-quality single malt. A far superior glass for drinking fine whiskies than traditional spirits tumblers (subtle aromas of the whisky are lost) and brandy balloons (emphasize the alcohol at the expense of finesse). Mouth blown 24% leaded glass. Recommend to hand wash. Recommended for: Single Malt Whisky, Malt Whisky, Whisky/Whiskey Size: 4-1/2"H, 7 oz. Riedel Model # 4400/80
