  • Set of 2 Bodum Assam 20-ounce iced tea glasses
  • Mouth-blown of 2 layers of lightweight, durable borosilicate glass
  • Keeps drinks insulated; won't form condensation on outside
  • Winner of the prestigious European iF Design Award
  • Scratch-resistant; dishwasher- and microwave-safe

At last, an iced tea glass that won't turn your hand to ice. Two walls of clear glass with an air layer in-between not only keep drinks cold--or hot--but prevent condensation from forming on the outside. So, a brisk Long Island tea or steamy Irish coffee feels just right, no matter the temperature. And coasters won't be needed, either.

Winner of the prestigious European iF Design Award, the mouth-blown Assam glass exhibits Bodum's flair for the modern. Each 8-3/4-inch glass rises straight up like a tumbler, then flares at the top to a diameter of 3-3/4 inches. Mouth-blown of borosilicate glass, which is quite a bit thinner yet much more durable than regular glass, the two 20-ounce Assam glasses in this set are safe for both the microwave and dishwasher, resist temperature swings, and resist scratching and dulling. Care should be taken when placing ice cubes in an empty glass, and metal spoons for stirring are discouraged. --Ann Bieri

Editor's Note: Because each glass is mouth-blown, each one may have slight differences in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. You should also avoid using metal spoons or placing the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

Bodum has come up with a way to sandwich air between two layers of Pyrexlike glass, yielding pleasant-to-hold glasses that keeps cappuccinos and lattes hot and beer cold. Bodum Assam Double Wall Iced Tea Glasses come in a Set of 2. The perfect size for many uses - make great coffee or cappuccino cups. The large 20 oz capacity is especially great for a large latte. The thermal insulation makes these great hot coffee cups or cold beverage bar glasses. The Assam series is styled with angled walls and a wide mouth. Bodum double wall glasses have been honored with prestigious design awards. A thermal insulated tumbler like no other. capacity: 20 oz size: 3.75 in diameter / 8.75 in. tall More info... Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in traditional glassware. The boron oxide acts as a glue holding the silicate together and due to the small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger glass. Some customers may perceive the glass to be "thin" as they hold it. It is important to explain the difference between borosilicate and soda lime glass. Borosilicate glass doesn't need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is dishwasher safe and will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 100 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it. Simply treat it as you would any glass product and it will stand up to every day use. Dishwashe...

A little BIG2009-11-093 / 5
I must have missed reading the description exactly. These are huge. Maybe 22 ounces?? I was wanting standard beer glasses but without anything of scale in the picture you do not know these are huge until they are yours. I have since found another pair of Bodiums closer to 13 ounces which hold a serving of beer better but they are more pub glass shape than beer glass shape.

You would think it would be a no-brainer to produce a double wall beer glass that looks like a beer glass. And holds a 12 ounce serving.
Excellent, and not particularly delicate2009-08-285 / 5
It's not hard to see why Bodum has been winning design awards for these mouth-blown double-wall fine glass tumblers. They are made of laboratory-grade borosilicate glass and thus tougher (and more expensive) than ordinary table glassware, but of course any glassware is vulnerable to some degree. We have poured both boiling-hot tea and iced drinks into ours with no ill effects. Of course no one with any sense would dump ice from a dispenser directly into any glassware, since an ice cube falling a considerable distance can deliver quite a sharp blow. There is no problem using them with hot drinks as the outer shell gets no more than pleasantly warm. They would hold heat better if they were silvered, of course, but wouldn't look so pretty. If you want best heat retention it is well to get a stainless mug with glass double-wall liner and sealing top.

We have used them for 18 months had have lost only one, which was knocked three feet to a hard floor. It is hard for us to understand the complaints about delicacy. Although the borosilicate glass is much lighter than the flint glass in most glasses, it is very tough and these glasses are no more fragile than comparable glasses of flint glass -- and much more resistant to chipping. If your glasses are going to see rough service then plastic or metal are the right choices. For ordinary household use, however, these should serve very well.
Wonderful adult glasses...2009-06-114 / 5
I have a couple of dozen of these glasses and use them for both hot and cold beverages. I have broken 2 or 3 over the years but only when I should have known and been more careful. Care for them as you would for similarly priced wine glasses. I often use them for coffee rather than a large mug. They are great for iced tea but, again, put the ice cubes in after the beverage and don't use chipped ice as it may freeze together and expand. Let the kids use the jelly glasses though...
SO FAR SO GOOD2008-11-275 / 5
If I had read the reviews prior to purchase I might not have bought these glasses. But now I have 8. Ha! (I tend to buy all the colors of "whatever" also. Bad habit.) Anyhow, the glasses are beautiful and I washed half of them in the upper level of the dishwasher, half by hand, and all came out fine. I WILL, however, take heed to those who have had these break ... especially good idea is putting the liquid in before adding some ice cubes. I love nice glassware and so it's worth it to me to have a non-dripper that looks as good as these glasses do.
Try the competition's glass...2008-07-222 / 5
I read all of the review warnings and my Bodum glasses also suffered the same demise-which is a good thing really, because treating them like priceless heirlooms was making me mental.
I then found glasses called Strong Double Wall Thermo glasses on that were cheaper and stronger than the Bodum's..They are heavier and may sweat just a bit more than the Bodum glasses and the 14 oz. really holds about 11.5 but what a relief to not have to panic everytime you use a double wall glass.Cheers.
